No trip to Jensen’s – my favorite grocery store in Palm Springs– is complete without a visit to their wine department, the only store I’m sure carries Manilow wine in the Valley.
I wrote a blog sometime ago about my first trip to Jensen’s when I was here in 2008 for an interview. As I roamed the aisles completely sleep deprived and jet lagged, I came across a cardboard cutout of Barry Manilow standing next to a display featuring his line of wine. I actually thought I was hallucinating until the store manager kindly walked over and asked if I’d like a photo with the cutout, which of course I did in spite of some curious on-lookers.
Anyway, back to the point of this blog. I was happy Jensen’s had my favorite Manilow Pinot Grigio. Pinot is the only wine I drink so I’m very glad that’s the one they carry. I was even happier to discover a little neck tag on the bottle stating all proceeds from the sale of the bottle go to the ‘Manilow Music Project’. It’s a win-win, not only can you enjoy a terrific wine, but you help kids acquire much needed musical instruments.
Manilow wine is a moderately priced and excellent in qualityn of course it goes with just about everything. In keeping with Barry’s persona, there are no bells and whistles, just a uniquely designed M – which used to be the back drop of the set during his shows at the Las Vegas Hilton - with Manilow beneath it. In searching for other retailers who carry the wine, I found a nice article which echos my statements.
Christmas shopping will be easy this year. Everyone over 21 on my list will be getting a bottle of Manilow wine and of course I’ll keep a few on hand for anyone who might stop by for a visit. Now if I can remind myself to not enjoy it all myself, but heck it is for a good cause, right?
Cheers!
PS. If you’re at the Paris in Las Vegas you can purchase a bottle - at least you could the last time I was there - in some of the shops that sell alcoholic beverages.
